Crowded Cafeteria - 09/29/06

Skit Synopsis

Jez, a new girl in school, is walking into the cafeteria with a classmate, Stacy. They are looking for a place to sit down and eat lunch, when Kate and Christie call them over to sit with them.

What is the problem?

09-29-06: Truro Central School • Grade 5• Truro, Massachusetts:
I think the problem is that Stacy is mad at Kate and Christy, but there's nowhere to sit in the cafeteria. Charlotte

I think that Stacy is mad at her friends and I think it is a misunderstanding that they need to sit down and discuss. Emma

What could Stacy do in this situation?

09-29-06: Touchstone Community School • Grade 5/6 • Grafton, Massachusetts:
I think that Stacy has the right to be mad at the other girls, but she should still go talk to them. Maybe she could send Jez over to talk to the girls she is mad at. Phil

09-29-06: Neighborhood School • Grade 5/6 • Boston, Massachusetts:
I think Stacy should go talk to Christie and Kate instead of ignoring them because that really doesn’t fix anything. Alexa

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think Stacy should tell her friends what she thinks they did and try to clear it up. Alex

I think that Stacy should talk to Kate and Christie and work it out. Brendan

I think that Stacy should go talk to Kristie. Lauren

I think that what Jez and Stacy should do is go over to Kate's table and talk with them and discuss what happened and what they could do to prevent that. Matt

Why do you think Stacy chose to ignore the girls instead of talking it out?

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think that Stacy should go over to Kate & Christie & talk to them about why they didn't wait for her after school. Sophie

I think that Stacy should talk to Kate and Christie and work it out. Maybe they didn't remember that they were supposed to wait. They shouldn't be mad at each other because its just silly to be mad at someone for that reason. Brendan

09-29-06: Touchstone Community School • Grade 5/6 • Grafton, Massachusetts:
I think one solution could be that Stacy could talk to Kate and Kristy and see why they didn't wait for her. Jacob

How would finding out Kate and Christie's reason for leaving help?

Email your ideas to contact@talkitoutkids.org and we will post them here.

09-29-06: Truro Central School • Grade 5• Truro, Massachusetts:
If they did not have a good reason for leaving I would be really hurt. Diana

09-29-06: Neighborhood School • Grade 5/6 • Boston, Massachusetts:
I think that if Stacy would have just talked to Christie and Kate by herself with out Jez there, she would have been able to solve the problem during that lunch time without drawing the problem out longer. I think that if Stacy just let Kate and Christie state their opinion, they would resolve the problem a lot faster. Alexandra

How might Jez help this situation?

09-29-06: Touchstone Community School • Grade 5/6 • Grafton, Massachusetts:
Jez should try to convince Stacy to talk to Christie and Kate so they can say sorry. Liam

I think Jez and Stacy should go over to Christie and Kate's and tell them they were being Bossy. Zander

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think that Jez should bring Stacy, Kate and Christie together and work the whole thing out. Jez should also tell both sides of the story as she heard them. Hannah

I think that Stacy should explain to Jez the situation that happened yesterday because maybe Jez could talk to Kate and Christie and explain why Stacy doesn't want to sit with them. And maybe tomorrow they will all sit together. Katilyn

09-29-06: Neighborhood School • Grade 5/6 • Boston, Massachusetts:
I think that Stacy should stop talking to Jez about her problems and instead talk directly to the people who are bothering her because if she doesn't tell Kate and Christie how she feels they will never change how they act towards her. Since Jez is new, she is trying to make friends and if Stacy thrusts her into past problems, Jez will get confused and will not know who she should try to be friends with and who she shouldn't. Michaela

(I talked earlier on the show.) I also think Stacy should talk to Christine and Katie so they can share their feelings so they can come up with a solution. I also think jez should NOT get involved in this argument because, it is Stacy, Katie, and Christie’s problem. Sebastian

09-29-06: Touchstone Community School • Grade 5/6 • Grafton, Massachusetts:
I think that Jez shouldn't be that involved and then she should let them sort it out themselves. Katy Joy

09-29-06: Neighborhood School • Grade 5/6 • Boston, Massachusetts:
I think that Jez should not really be in this problem because Stacy and Kate and Christie should figure this out so they shouldn't be expecting that Jez should figure it out by herself and they shouldn't be avoiding each other they should try to figure it out. Mimi

We think that its a bad idea to get Jez involved in Stacy's situation with Kate and Christy. Katy Joy & Izzy

What advice would you give Jez in this situation? How might she help Stacy without getting in the middle of things?

How could the girls work it out and all be friends?

09-29-06: Truro Central School • Grade 5• Truro, Massachusetts:
I think they should work it out by having Stacy approach Kate and Christie and ask them why they left. I think if they talk about it they will get to the bottom of it. Courtney

I think they could get through the misunderstanding by talking through the incident with them. Asking them why they left without her... I think Kate and Christie should apologize to Stacy, but I also think Stacy should apologize for overreacting. Liam

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think that Kate and Christie should say sorry that they didn't wait for her. And that maybe they could sit with her at lunch the next day. Joe

How do apologies help?

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think they should talk it out and they should see what happened and that’s my comment. Billy

09-29-06: Truro Central School • Grade 5• Truro, Massachusetts:
If I were Stacy I would say I was sorry, and if I were the other girls I would also apologize. I think that Kate and Christie may have had somewhere they needed to be. Sam

I think she should go and ask why they left without her. I think if it was a good reason she should forgive them, but if it was just that she was taking too long, I think she may want to discuss it with them. Lindsay

09-29-06: Swampscott Middle School • Grade 6 • Swampscott, Massachusetts:
I think that maybe Jez could kind of keep the friends together by sitting with Stacy one day and with Christie and her friend the other day. I don't think Jez should be their messenger or anything but maybe to be able to be friends with both, maybe even have the three be friends again. They could just talk it out and see if they can work up the truth out of somewhere in the whole story. Maybe the girls could just use their instincts with each other and make some kind of a treaty. If it happens again maybe they can work it out with parents or the guidance counselor at their school. If it gets too mixed up they can take a break from each other. Maddie

09-29-06: Touchstone Community School • Grade 5/6 • Grafton, Massachusetts:
I think they should talk about it and try to solve it with them and try to come to an understanding. Ryan
