On the Bus - 02/02/07

Skit Synopsis

Keisha and her younger brother Curtis are boarding a crowded school bus to go home when Keisha sees that her friend Tammy has saved her a seat.

What is the problem?

02-02-07: Startown Elementary School • Grade 5 • Newton, North Carolina:
The problem is that Tammy's shirt said “I'm with stupid” and Keisha got upset. Angelica

The kids are making fun of Keisha because her friend’s shirt says, “I am with stupid.” They should not do that. Dakota

02-02-07: P.S. 46 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
I think the problem is that when Tammy's wearing the shirt everyone is looking at the arrow pointing at Keisha. Jihnay

The problem is Tammy is wearing a shirt and everyone is laughing and making jokes about Keisha. Noah

02-02-07: Four Corners School • Grade 4/5 • Greenfield, Massachusetts:
I think Tammy is a bully because what she did to Keisha was mean and rude and it was a bullying situation. Isabel

The problem is a case of bullying. It is bullying because Tammy tricks her friend into sitting with her and then takes off her coat and shows her shirt off to hurt her friends feelings. Anonymous

Do you think it was Tammy's intention to hurt Keisha's feelings?

02-02-07: Four Corners School • Grade 4/5 • Greenfield, Massachusetts:
Tammy was being a little mean though if that was her friend. Sophie

02-02-07: Startown Elementary School • Grade 5 • Newton, North Carolina:
I think that it was not on purpose and that she felt very bad and she could have put the coat back on and say she didn't mean to wear it. Drew

02-02-07: P.S. 46 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
Well, what l feel about the situation is that maybe Keisha should have not taken it so serious because Tammy didn't think it was going to hurt anyone's feelings. I think if she would have known it was going to hurt her best friend's feelings she wouldn't have worn the t-shirt. Anonymous

02-02-07: Bowman School • Grade 5 • Lexington, Massachusetts:
Tammy did play a joke on Keisha on purpose but she meant it to be friendly instead of mean. Nick

It wasn't smart of Tammy to wear the t-shirt because she wasn't considerate of others feelings. Kate

Why would Tammy wear a shirt that might hurt anyone's feelings?

02-02-07: Bowman School • Grade 5 • Lexington, Massachusetts:
Tammy didn't mean to play the trick on Keisha. She wore the shirt by accident. Keisha should have laughed along with the other kids. Martha

02-02-07: Startown Elementary School • Grade 5 • Newton, North Carolina:
I think you should forgive whoever had the shirt because I think Tammy did not mean to make fun of Keisha. Neal

I think that Tammy didn't mean to wear the shirt. Keisha should have at least let Tammy apologize to her. But sometimes people take it the wrong way. Karina

02-05-07: Bowman School • Grade 5 • Lexington, Massachusetts:
Some people when they were talking on the phone said they thought it was an accident that Tammy was wearing that shirt, but I think that it's not an accident. A teacher would have told her it was not a good shirt to wear. Maybe she wore something over it all day (like a sweatshirt) so the teacher couldn't see it. Tammy wanted to play a joke on Keisha but she didn't think Keisha'd get upset. Mia

What could any of the kids do to make the situation better?

02-02-07: Startown Elementary School • Grade 5 • Newton, North Carolina:
I don’t think Keisha should have gotten so mad. Angelica

I think that Tammy should have not unzipped the jacket. Isaiah

You should check your shirt so you would not make him or her feel bad. Allison

I think that she should not of wore the shirt at all. Austin

02-02-07: Four Corners School • Grade 4/5 • Greenfield, Massachusetts:
I think the way to solve this problem is she could ask Tammy to apologize and if she says no then Keisha should report to the bus driver. Anonymous

I think a way they can solve it is if Tammy apologizes to Keisha. Isabel

02-02-07: P.S. 46 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
She could have said sorry and put her jacket back on. Also she could tell her that it wasn’t for her. Robert

Well I think that Tammy should apologize to Keisha for actually wearing that t –shirt. Also she should say she's sorry for wearing that shirt on that day. Eduardo

Another thing Keisha should do is say sorry to her brother because she was very rude to him, so she kind of got a taste of her own medicine. Anonymous

Also, I think Keisha should apologize to her brother, because she was bullying her brother. Then all of the problems will be solved. Isabel

I think that Keisha needs to leave her brother alone. He cares about her and that is why he asked her why everybody was laughing at her. Sophie

02-02-07: C.S. 211 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
I think Keisha was very rude to her brother. She shouldn’t have treated her brother like he is not human and I wouldn’t have done that to my brother if I had one. Sandra

02-02-07: P.S. 46 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
What could Curtis do to help Keisha from getting embarrassed? Sumyia

02-02-07: C.S. 211 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
I like the way Keisha's brother supported her and asked her what was wrong even though he really didn't understand what was going on. Shanice

02-02-07: Bowman School • Grade 5 • Lexington, Massachusetts
The brother didn't have to stick up for her because he didn't hear and if he was younger, it may have been embarrassing for her. Mia

02-02-07: C.S. 211 • Grade 5 • Bronx, New York
I'm wondering why no one else on the bus came to Keisha’s defense. Our teacher told us about how Pee Wee Reese supported his team mate Jackie Robinson when the fans were booing him. Shanice
